Atlantis Shatters Records

The July 16 series premiere of SCI FI Channel's new original series Stargate Atlantis earned a 3.2 household rating, the best of any series in the channel's history, the network announced. The 9 p.m. ET/PT two-hour premiere episode drew 4.2 million viewers, which made it the highest-rated and most-watched episode of any series that has ever aired on SCI FI. Stargate Atlantis was also the number one cable program of the day among adults aged 18-49 and 25-54, and SCI FI was first among cable networks in those demographics in prime time for the night.

The Atlantis premiere broke a record set just last week by the eighth-season premiere of Stargate SG-1 (a 2.4 household rating and 3.2 million viewers). Atlantis delivered a 33 percent higher household rating and 30 percent more total viewers than the SG-1 premiere.

Among the records set by Atlantis:
•It was the highest-rated and most-watched premiere of any series in SCI FI history.
•It was the first episode of any series on SCI FI to deliver better than a 3.0 rating.
•It was the first episode of any series on SCI FI to deliver more than 4 million viewers.
•It was the highest-rated series in both ratings and viewers among all viewers, adults aged 18-49 and adults aged 25-54 in SCI FI history.

I never realised how screwed up shows are over there until i watched this episode and the last Kingdom Hospital.

There's advert breaks every 2 mins and huge watermarks all over the screen... it must be so crappy to have that crap all over your tv set all the time :o

How can they get away with having so many advert breaks?

I dont actually watch TV anymore, just download and watch movies and eps without the ad breaks. It's really noticable when I go to a friend's house and end up watching, say SG-1 'The lost City' and every 10 mins theres a break, it litterally shocks me. Talk about breaking the flow of the storyline not to mention the exitement build up. Here, we have less ad breaks than the USS, how the hell they put up with it does my head in.

It effects not watching tv too, and downloading. You get the huge watermarks "coming up next on fox", "michael titface interview", etc and it fades to ads :o its still annoying with the ads removed :(

:-o

Maybe I just have a lust for epic violence? Sure you can have deviations from a story arc, but that as you say, was drivel. Aren't they sitting there without any sheilds? That would be a concern I'd milk by making the quest for power sources more frantic, and slowly pushing out the raiths at the same time. But that last episode was just, well I didn't like it, it might as well have been just another episode of SG1 and hardly justifies what its doing in this spinoff which should be trying to work out its own ground.

The general consensus aroung the stargate boards is that it was good to excellent :matrix: I think the acting of the support cast was crap, and the main cast kept losing their grip with the flow of the story. reminded me of something you'd watch on Children ITV, basically there were loads of cringeworthy soppy shite.

that just seemed like yet another SG1 episode to me :( Okay it was vastly better than episode 3, but the shows not exactly justifying its existance to me (I guess it has to studio executives if Stargate fans are lapping it up :( )

I'd much rather them spend their money on another episode of farscape
