In the year 1532, Mendoza, a Spanish Navigator, Estaban, a young orphan, Zia, a young Incan girl, and a band of Spanish sailors set sail from Barcelona in search of El Dorado, the Mysterious City of Gold. Each is on a personal quest of discovery, heritage, and wealth. This is their story...

The Mysterious Cities of Gold is a 39-episode animated series that was produced in 1982. It was a French/Japanese co-production that was loosely based on the Scott O'Dell book: The King's Fifth.

Since 1982, The Mysterious Cities of Gold has aired on television stations around the world, and has gone by many different names. In Japan it is known as "Taiyô no ko Esteban", In the United States it is known either as "The Mysterious Cities of Gold" or "Estaban and the Seven Cities of Gold", and in France it is known as "Les Mystérieuses cités d'or".

my fansubgroup recently bought the dvdbox, so with a little luck you'll be able to watch it in its original japanese version in the future

as far as i know the dvds are only out in france and french language only, i cant understand french or japanese so neither are of interest to me unfortunately :(

yep, that's the english dub, unfortunately they changed the original script for the dub (as they always seem to do, god knows why)

I guess that's a good question - why would they change the original script for a dub? Maybe some "lost in translation" things going on - but since I only ever saw it in dubbed english all those years ago anyway it's all good!

yerah i only saw it in dubbed english years ago on tv, and that's all i wanna see it again as lol, normally i'm against dubbing, but these are childhood memories we're dealing in :P

normally so do I, but I've seen a few of my childhood shows again in their original installment, & in the end I liked those better; mainly coz of the stuff they always cut out in the US when making a dub. and furthermore, it always seems that a lot of the japanese symbolism & humor gets lost in translation

I recently saw Gatchaman (Battle Of The Planets in the US) in its original installment, & in the end I liked it far better, coz for the Battle of... dub, they cut out half the ep ( per ep) & added 'new' US-drawn material, to make the show less violent. as for the part of the story not being right anymore: they used a robot to narrate those parts to a new story so...

i don't thiunk i'd like lame jap voices on MCoG, they wouldn't fit the characters so it would be stupid and shit, if they were japanese characters maybe, but they aren't they are mostly spanish so i just can't see it working myself

I suggest you watch the spanish dubbed version then, to get the best feel from the "spanish" characters :wink: :mrgreen: :wink:
