J.R. Tolkien's - Middle Earth Stories

Postby Jynks on Sat Apr 24, 2004 11:10 pm

The Lord of The Rings

Arguably the best fantasy book series ever written in modern times. J.R.Tolkien was a master of literature and as a hobby designed new languages, spending much of his other time studying myths and legends. A good friend of CS.Lewis (The Nardia Fantasy Series) Tolkien decided to also attempt to write a original work. He was attempting to try and summaries / collect the famous archetypes from world myths and legends and create a new story to reflect the modern age. While in the old days were iconography was common place in legend, the acquisition of some chalice, or item was the stories journey, Tolkien reversed it and the quest is to destroy a bit of technology, not acquire it. While this collection is mainly for films about his work I urge everyone of you to read this book. This book is one of those that will be read for all time and take its place along side the Odyssey, the Iliad, Paradise Lost, Danta's Inferno and other master works of literature.

Review: Sauron's forces increase. His allies grow. The Ringwraiths return in an even more frightening form. Saruman's army of Uruk Hai is ready to launch an assault against Aragorn and the people of Rohan. Yet, the Fellowship is broken and Boromir is dead. For the little hope that is left, Frodo and Sam march on into Mordor, unprotected. A number of new allies join with Aragorn, Gimli, Legolas, Pippin and Merry. And they must defend Rohan and attack Isengard. Yet, while all this is going on, Sauron's troops mass toward the City of Gondor, for the War of the Ring is about to begin.

Review: Bilbo Baggins the Hobbit was just minding his own business, when his occasional visitor Gandalf the Wizard drops in one night. One by one, a whole group of dwarves drop in, and before he knows it, Bilbo has joined their quest to reclaim their kingdom, taken from them by an evil dragon named Smaug. The only problem is that Gandalf has told the dwarves that Bilbo is an expert burglar, but he isn't....

Review: Only the first two parts of J.R.R. Tolkein's classic fantasy trilogy of the same name are covered by this rotoscoped animated feature about a band of travellers of different races who seek to defeat an evil sorcerer and his armies with the aid of powerful but insidious magical ring.

The Return of the King (1980)
Movieinfo:IMDB
Review: This film adapts the final book of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy where the Hobbits, Frodo and Samwise, struggle through the barren land of Mordor to destroy the Ruling Ring in Mount Doom. At the same time, Gandalf and the others wage a desperate battle against the forces of Sauron at Minos Tirith, but Sauron seems to have the upper hand while the source of his power, the Ring, slowly threatens to corrupt its bearers.

Postby R19Pa on Thu Dec 11, 2014 11:46 pm

Ah. Sorry. I meant that it does give me the atmospheric feel of Middle Earth. Not even Mordor. But its still looks better than Guardians of Middle Earth
