The Elegant Universe (2003)

Synopsis:
A Three-Hour Miniseries with Brian Greene
Original PBS Broadcast Dates: October 28th, 8-10 pm and November 4, 8-9 pm, 2003

One of the most ambitious and exciting theories ever proposed -- one that may be the long-sought "theory of everything," which eluded even Einstein -- gets a masterful, lavishly computer-animated explanation from bestselling author-physicist Brian Greene, when NOVA presents the nuts, bolts, and sometimes outright nuttiness of string theory.

Also known as superstring theory, the startling idea proposes that the fundamental ingredients of nature are inconceivably tiny strings of energy, whose different modes of vibration underlie everything that happens in the universe. The theory successfully unites the laws of the large -- general relativity -- and the laws of the small -- quantum mechanics -- breaking a conceptual logjam that has frustrated the world's smartest scientists for nearly a century.

Got this of BT some months ago , didn't release it myself coz i lack the proper bandwidth.....Need me to help share ?

Anyway , don't expect to much new if you already know the base principles of string/M-theory.....

and Brrrrrr...what's with this syndicated sponsoring ?

EVERYONE who hasn't watched this should.. it is truly a great doco, the only one that comes close to explaining to the avradge joe info about multi dimentions.... I've had a few headaches trying to explain 11 dimentions of string to people and now I just whip out this tape!! Exclent stuff!!

To those that have this, what is the quality like... the copies I have are a little crappy witch spoils it I would like a nice clean dvd rip.... can you post a screen from the show.

Oh be quiet , you historical simulation !

BTW I could swear I made another reply to this thread....admittedly not too positive......Did you censor me again :P ?

Look this mini series doesn't go any deeper than the stuff you'll mosly know already....
It's really a bunch of FANCY GFX.....
A history of string theory would be more approprieate.....
You could skip the first 2 episodes.....they are about GR an QM mostly....

if anyone's interested , I could post some "scientific american - special issiues " PDF's about theoretical and cutting edge physics :D

These are always in my permanently shared files. The syndication tag has been removed.

I agree, its the 3rd ep that explains the most and supports many of my own theories about the universe, I was quite suprised when I watched it, thinking I wasnt as mad as I thought . :wacky:

still trying to complete disc 1 & 3. I've had them on release for a long time, and most of the 9 other guys trying to get'em, got exactly the same segments. But I'm missing 27mb on cd1 and 166mb on cd3.

The.Elegant.Universe.-.Disc.1.Einstein's.Dream.avi

The.Elegant.Universe.-.Disc.2.(XViD,.DVDRiP.By.Mikka).avi

The Elegant Universe - Disc 3 (XViD, DVDRiP By Mikka).avi

Two of the links were not that good. Next time do a search in the mule (thats what I did) to find the other 2 instead of bumping so much.

Ciao
