best way to get it released would to be pass anti-copyright laws on media companies that sit on and refuse to release art.

If they refuse to let people see it officially, people should lawfully be allowed to distrubute it and the media becomes public domain.

That way even if its on naff DVDs, most stuff will see light on DVD.

Of course that opens a whole can of worms, but I can't stand people wasting art. It totally defeats the purpose of making it, I can't see any point in sitting on something in this way. However, if there was a time limit set, which when expired they have effectively waved all rights of owenship if they don't make it available, then we'd see a whole wealth of material available as its meant to be.

Of course its hardly all art, but you can make the argument that its valid for forms of entertainment like this.

8 to 10 years of unreleasing a film or tv series for example, could waive their copyright ownership as they quite clearly don't give a crap out getting any revenue from it and don't give a crap about movie fans. It doesn't have to be mass prints, they could easily sell DVD isos, burnt, downloaded or even full retail pressed dvds.

Something to talk to your culture minister and/or mp about ;-)

HA my mp's Elliot Sodding Morley, who looks like (and possibly is) a werewolf, as far as im aware if it involves farming or fishing in north lincolnshire eh will try and help, if not you can sod off

incidently spud does that mean that technically Storm classes as art    , altho it does take the piss when u see such classics bypassed and other hardly known cable tv fare getting dvd treatment, the only thing it seems u can hope for is a revival of the decade it was from causing a revival in the show/movie so it gets released, like the recent 80s revival has caused lots of80s shows to come to dvd, alf, airwolf, a-team, knightrider, sledge hammer, hell even murder she wrote, the waltons & little house on the prarie are out on dvd in season box sets :o

those are the worms I refer to

But I mean even internet downloads of unavailable series, but just sitting on stuff... serves no purpose!

I'm still waiting for a bloody Garth Marengi's Dark Place DVD!

im still waiting for a seven days dvd but yeah i know what u mean, having stuff locked away in vaults all over the place rotting away and gathering dust is pointless because no1 ever gets to see it, the only way a lot of old movies/series are available now is by downloading other peoples vhs/tv caps, and most of the stuff will never see the outside of the vault its kept in ever again

I'm really hoping the BBC is going to get its act together, this opening of its archives will be something for media companies to look at... if they ever get round to doing it that is!

At least some companies are looking forwards.

they were working on their own codec a while back, probably still trying to think of a way of paying for the huge bandwidth costs.
