Help converting Avi to DVD

Postby m0nty on Sat Mar 10, 2007 9:33 pm

i don't know why, but for quite a few months now (since the latest divx's came out after divx5) and nero 7 etc..

when i try to use nerovision express to convert AVI files that are created from NTSC (23.97 fps) to DVD the dubbing is always way out.

i select NTSC format in nerovision options as I used to, but the finished result is always the same.. the audio is out of sync.

it worked fine before, but doesn't now.

PAL works fine.. it's just AVI's encoded at 23.997 fps.

when i play the AVI's on my PC using any software.. winDVD, nero showtime, WMP, winamp etc, the audio is perfectly synced.

can anybody shed any light on this?

i've tried uninstalling/reinstalling codecs etc and even tried from a cleanly installed system.

nero 7 is supposed to be buggy and only worth trying if you wanna burn hd content cuz v6 doesn't support it.

Nero is one giant bug on it's own  "ConvertXtoDVD" is the easiest to use IMO, get it here: http://www.vso-software.fr/products/convert_x_to_dvd/ and then search for the crack/keygen on ed2k network, just don't tell others  ... The second best for quick conversion and burning, only it does not support adding custom subtitles, is "TMPG DVD Author" that can also be found on ed2k net. Others I know of are more pro tools, like "DVD-Lab Pro" for example, or they don't work at all (like "CyberLink PowerDirector"). Hope this helps...

you should consider buying a standalone, won't look so crappy when you play back and your time you should value more than having to sit there and nanny the rips into something you can play :)

A second hand xbox can be easily modified to play all but HD content.

my xbmc boxes both have trouble reading discs. those lens cleaner discs don't do much to help either. I have noticed a lot of laser eyes for sale on ebay. so I take it this is a common failing of the xbox. (don't use ps2 nearly as often, but it's considerably older and doesn't have any of xbox's difficulties - though I think I've only ever tried one or two dvd movies in it)

dunno, don't have any problems. I've used it every day for many hours for well over a year. Barring my pcs, its the most used bit of hardware i have.

PS2s are the most unreliable of the last generation iirc, followed closely by xbox, then nintendo's just don't break.

I use a Xbox as well for watching avi and stuff and it works a treat..... reading discs and everything is fine as well. Also you need to edit the XML file to read certain media formats so if you are having a problem reading the ntry this

udf discs can only be read to the 2 gig mark. burn as iso. if you burned as udf/iso (aka "xbox compatability" in nero), there is a work around. in xboxmediacenter.xml, set <detectasiso> to true.

So like spud said.. get an xbos.... or better yet... just pick up a avi ready dvd player.... or if you HAVE to get a avi->?dvd thing happening .. grab a DVD Recorder DVD player (they are all AVI ready)... normal AVI/DVD players are cheap as chips now .. . .

The only problem with the xbox is that some of the newer high def releases can not be played as the xbox dosn;'t have the grunt for it.. same with MKV files... . . . I am still looking for an easy way to strip the video out of a MKVand repack it into a avi container...

OH... if you are really intent on converting a AVI -> a DVD player.. I would use CANOPUS PRO CODER + DVD Lab

Thanks guys,

I tried 'ConvertXtoDVD' as suggested by Myk and it is working properly now :)

in regards to xbox, I have a modded xbox with xecuter 3 mod chip, and have replaced the hard drive with a 200gb drive. never had any problems with reading discs on the dvd drive tho. But I know you can use a normal DVD drive from a PC as long as you edit the setting in xecuter control panel and tell it you're using a normal DVD drive instead of an XBOX drive.

already do use xbmc.

it's not a question of whether I can play them or not, that question was never in doubt. not everyone I know owns an xbox or a dvd player that is capable of playing avi/divx media, and i'm always lending them dvd's etc.

no i don't sell dvd's or copy them for people, but i do lend them out quite often.
