It's way better than that but it's still utter crap. Reminds me of Event Horizon. Both start quite good and have some decent actors in it, plot seems reasonable but in the end they both fail completely trying to match suspense in Alien, Sphere,... at least it has some nice visuals ;)

Hi guys,

I got a query on CROPPING ...

The Time Guardian

As you can see the original rip of The Time Guardian has some crap (pixels) top & bottom of the screen (if you zoom in)... so I have taken 3 pixels from the top and 3 from the bottom in Attempt 2 ...

Now the question is:
How come the screen size stays the same when I crop the movie (by 6 pixels in height) in AutoGK ... does that program compensate for the cropping by expanding the movie in some way to cope with the removed 6 pixels leaving the aspect ratio the same?

After cropping the Attempt 2 both images are still the same screen (and pixel) size ... I'm confused ... never cropped a movie before ...

ATTEMPT 1 (Original) (720 x 304)

ATTEMPT 2 (Cropped by 3 at Top / 3 at Bottom) (720 x 304)

Not sure for AutoGK but - in essence - yeah... when you crop it the input frame size changes not the output that is set independently. Then (if input and output sizes are not the same) it'll resize it to specified value (resize methods can normally be selected, like bi-cubic, bilinear,...) and the app should give you an aspect error afterward. Looking at your sample frames you could try cropping only those edges that need it so you won't end up with too huge aspect error. Looks like 2 pixel at the top & 4 pixels at the bottom should do it. You can than crop 4 pixels left and right to keep much the same aspect ratio as input. Output size (width, height) should be multiplicands of 4, ideally multiplicatives of 16... in your case, cropping 2px top, 4px right, 4px bottom, 4px left, output size should be either 716x300 (aspect error of 0.1% w/ zoom of 101%) or 688x288 (aspect error 0% w/ zoom of 97%), depends on how much bits per pixel you wanna keep ;)

It should actually be as close as possible to the original aspect ratio, whatever that might be cropped to actual movie content and not with black borders (it's a shame doing bad crops not only cuz some ppl complain then but also cuz it's a total waste bitwise) ;) 16:9 & 4:3 FS rips are also valid for originally anamorphic movies but should be noted that in the file name if such is the case.... yada, yada... it's a lot to know but you'll get used to all that eventually (most of it makes total sense less some scene rules crap like file sizes being either 350 or 700 megs for most TV series out there when almost nobody uses CDs anymore or have burners with an overburn feature anyway).

To make matters worse (adding insult to injury) most of latest US TV shows have 13 parts per season

Right after nearly 9 months I have decided to finally do the rips I promised  ...

Using AutoGK ...

TIME GUARDIAN:
I done what you said Myk (above) about the cropping ... that came out sweet ...

Image

but the size (AFR 746mb selected in AutoGK) has produced a file at 527mb ...

Also

CRIME ZONE:
This came out at 602mb ... looks good though ...

Image

but I want a proper AFR size for both ...

F&%kin' thing ...

what gives and what do I have to do to compensate to get it upto the 746mb for an AFR release? ...

I selected the width to FIXED at 720 ... and set Audio to AUTO ...

Please no-one say use GordianKnot (manual version) ... I can't be asked to learn that at the mo ...

The previous releases I done using 1.46Gb were fine in size ...

Help with AutoGK on the sizes would be cool ... as I want to get a few out now ...

If someone has a basic settings guide to do one in GK manual then I'll start on that ... I just don't know sh!t about all the different settings in there to get them done in a reasonable amount of time ...

Where's Shitbusters when you need 'em ...

you can follow the guide at doom9.org, but if you don't actually know what all of the settings mean, then you're just as much a trained monkey as using autogk but with more steps to run though. imo.
