the AR is off on that rip I'd say:
Image

Time Guardian was shot anamorphically:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094152/technical

2.39:1 35 mm anamorphic from 1970 onwards. Sometimes rounded up to 2.40:1[1] Often commercially branded as Panavision format or 'Scope.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspect_ratio_(image)

However, I think it looks better @ ~2.55:1

704x277
<img src="http://i30.tinypic.com/ws8rjq.jpg" width="704" height="277">

I'd say your target AR lies in between 2.40 and 2.55

You need a scene with a circle and use a paint app to overlay a circle to get the actual AR.

GSpot & GK came out with an AR of 2.316 ... that's because I had overridden the input resolution to 1.333 as stated on this site:
http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/227751

Soooo ... really my first initial rip was closer then? ... which came out at 702x288 when I selected PAL Anamorphic 16:9 ... the AR on that was 2.444 ... AE was 1.0 but I could sort the cropping out to get a lower value ...

Ta for that as I didn't scan the bloody DVD cover ...

Ok cool ... more general info ...

Ok ... but 277 isn't divisible by 16 though ...

My original Rip Image (704 x 304)

Image

Proposed Image (704 x 277)

Image

I resized my rip image to the proposed 704x277 in paint shop pro and the white circles look slightly squashed ... more so than my initial image ...

You sure that looks better? ... because when played on PC in BS Player his head isn't as squashed as mine ...

I realize you resized your image in the thread ...

spudthedestroyer wrote:You need a scene with a circle and use a paint app to overlay a circle to get the actual AR.

Well there's 6 white (near) circles in the background and your 704x277 seems to have squashed them slightly ... see above

Appreciate the feedback mate ... I sort of understand the ratio side of stuff ... getting it spot on is the bugger ... and the compensation you have to make to other variables to get there ...

I do strive to get things right ... with a little help naturally ...

hmmm, i'm not sure about 277 after all now it looks slightly squashed (I'm on a much bigger monitor now).. Its probably in between to be honest.

I think those lights will turn out to be misleading, there any wheels or anything in the movie?

No Dinky ... it's ripped from an Australian DVD I grabbed off eBay ... grab the sample if it's still active (above) and have a gander ...

This is my first rip with GK ... although it was a bugger to do because of quite a bit of cropping ... and so getting the AR back to a level that's was near enough ...

Hopefully future Rips will be easier ... but I do tend to Rip older DVDs .... especially rare ones ...

I could be converted for good if this is acceptable for release ...

Next in the queue is Timescape (Grand Tour: Disaster in Time) ... DVD ... :)
