I heard they aren't going to bother making all the books because of the poor performance of the previous attempts, and the previous attempts are poor because they couldn't be bothered making decent films.

Isn't that pretty much how hollywood has worked since the mid 90s?

I think you'll find it was the 80s that shat out that type of film.

nah they kind of fit the style of 80s films, so they didn't feel as out of place as the mid 90s idea of putting an indecipherable metal song on anything regardless of what genre movie it is

where on earth do you get "metal song" out of anything he said?

I bought the complete narnia set and read the first book in anticipation of the first movie (directed by the guy who did the first 2 SHREK films). OMG! it was mind numbing. they are children's books through and through. not only that, they reek of certain ehtnocentric, religious biases that probably worked 50 years ago in a more or less homogeneous christian "west." but I don't want to be preached sunday school religion in my "fantasy epics." fuck. I didn't want to be preached to on sundays. this whole collection belongs in the 50's or 60's. I don't think it's just the filmakers. the source is dated, stale, and (imo) manipulative. it's something the mormon sponsored sat/sun cartoons would be shoving down your throat - shite like superbook or prince of egypt. get over yourselves.

you gotta download a rip of this just to watch the last 5 minutes. I swear, I almost gagged on the bile in the back of my throat.

Season of the Witch (2010)
It starts off badly. I mean..what was the colin firth arthur/roman movie? Legion? or something? it starts off that badly. I'm refering to the scenes from the crusades. fortunately, the plot moves along quickly and you get to the "real story" with relative haste. it's a genre movie. and it's fine for what it was. I was surprised by the ending - it's no great shock. but it was mild surprise. I preferred it to what I was expecting. it's acdtually pretty scary for a PG-13 movie. and pretty...uh...graphic. I guess it's cool cuz there's no sex or titties. so the censors are cool with it. what a funny society we live in. anyway...it's not worth the ticket, but it is - as DK might say - watchable. I also think it was the only major release this week. bummer.

I watched firefly again.

You know what's odd, the pilot was different and better, and some of the episodes weren't bad. I think studio execs fucked me over like the fans claim they did the series. I did a bit of digging, and it seems the studio interfered and made a second pilot which is, well its a shit episode about a train heist. Very cliched and pretty shitty. Put me right off. On the bluray its actually episode 2, and reading about it they were both pilots. The next one i saw was an awful episode about a whore house (which is much letter on in the blurays), followed by one with a dual (which is earlier on). Which was also shit. Watching them now the rest of the series is pretty different. Still for such a short run there was an awful lot of shit episodes, but there's some okay ones in there. I must have missed some with the sporradic schedule.

The one with the bounty hunter is excellent though

Still vastly inferior scifi to the likes of Babylon 5, the fans are off their tits to think otherwise.
