Sixteen years after his swashbuckling horror/adventure Island of Mutations (1979), Sergio Martino culled a handful fishmen effects shots from the original, footage from his 1982 post-apocalypse sci-fi opus 2019: After the Fall of New York, and all-new, fairytale scenes shot in the Maldives, and concocted this bizarre, kiddie-oriented sequel.

Two boys (Giuliano Gensini and Michael Velez) who live in the sewers escape a post-apocalyptic New York ruled by evil Exterminator Warriors. A bewildering array of masked horsemen, laser fire, flamethrowers, and babbling psychos speed by amidst non-stop chatter from the child heroes. After their first companion, a death race road warrior, is shot to pieces, the boys find grizzled, old timer Socrates (Donald Hodson) and his – supposedly supernatural – dog Lampo. A magical book called Destiny leads them on an enchanted voyage to a tropical island, the last unpolluted place left on Earth. The grungy, dystopian city is so depressing, even the viewer feels relieved when we finally reach the kiddie flick part of the movie: palm trees, golden sands and cool, blue waters. Thanks Sergio, what’s next? Well, a beautiful, but evil queen (Ramona Badescu) with sorcerous powers and her army of fetching Amazons are after a deformed dwarf in a golden mask. Like you do. The boys team up with jungle girl Selva (Natascia Castrignano) and rescue the dwarf, who turns out to be a prince cursed by the evil queen. Selva’s sister, the island’s rightful ruler has been transformed into a wooden statue, so the boys set out to break the spell with the aid of those mysterious, heroic, oddly lovable fishmen.

Are those screenshots taken directly from the final rip? If yes, the aspect ratio is plain wrong... Looks like you squeezed a 16:9 image to 4:3.

the screens are from the final rip and that is the aspect ratio when I play it on the tv also...maybe the german company that made the DVD did the AR incorrect.

No, that's called anamorphic. What software did you use to rip it? Taking a quick look at the screenshots, width should at least be 640 if you keep height at 384. It is normal that widescreen DVDs are squeezed in anamorphic aspect, because both players and 16:9 TV sets expand the image when played, but that is not the case of DivX/XviD, you have to expand it while you rip it. I suggest "AutoGK" if you're not sure how to deal with aspect ratio.

you need to force anamorphic into widescreen if you use autogknot, one of its many inferior points when compared to the real gknot :(

I've moved it here since the ar is off :(

cheers

I used AutoGK years ago (now I always use GK), but I'm sure it did recognize correct aspect, that's why I suggested it. I couldn't imagine it now works worse than older versions :o

BTW digitalgodd, to do what spud suggested, open your movie in AutoGK, then press Preview, wait some time and watch how the movie looks like. If it's too squeezed, close preview, press CTRL+F9 then switch ON "Override input AR" and choose 16:9, then click Ok and look preview again. It should now look fine and you can rip it.
