i had work early this morning so i went to bed early the night before so vegged out to Rio it was average at best, not really many redeeming features, i wouldn't recommend it really, there are much better cgi kids films out there

CAPTAIN AMERICA - not bad. better than expected. expected absolute crap. retarded character concept to begin with. did as well as could be expected. costume is hopeless.

COWBOYS & ALIENS - daniel craig's gunslinger is excellent. harrison ford's ornery cattle kingpin is up to snuff. the alien elements are not well integrated, and I had the feeling that every action sequence against them was tweaked like the flavor of the month comic book villain to suit the abilities of the human enemy that they faced. that made for incoherence. say this for the Predator and Alien franchises: they don't nerf their characters in order to give humans a shot at them on a scene by scene basis.

STUPID, CRAZY, LOVE. - solid flick. doesn't rewrite the genre or inject any particularly new ideas on the topic. but it's executed well, and the cast is very good.

The Change-Up (2011)
meh. I laughed a bit, but I wouldn't call it a good movie. both leading actors have more (situational) talent that the movie/director/script ever asks them to use.

THE HELP (2011)
good movie. senior citizen audience. you're prolly laughing at me for having seen it. moving on....

FRIGHT NIGHT (2011)
surprisingly good horror film. pacing is very good. fx didn't look much different from tv budget, but I think they worked well - that's a compliment to the direction and script; iunno what the actual budget was. worth a watch but not a must see.

CONAN THE BARBARIAN (2011)
this one will sprain your brain. did you watch that uwe boll DUNGEON SIEGE movie? yeah. this one's swimming in those waters. not quite that disjointed, but pretty bad.

30 MINUTES OR LESS (2011)
fun. amoral. like FRIGHT NIGHT, the writers/director don't bog it down in superfluous scenes. fast paced. worth a watch but not a must see.

Torchwood: Miracle Day (series, 2011)

Rise of the Planets of the Apes (2011)
Really good, thought it was great and didn't step on anyone's toes in terms of prequels/remakes/etc. A little too many references to the original but not enough to make it a cheese fest. Also has perhaps the greatest noooooooooooooo scene ever which will be an immensely popular clip for me to use in reaction to retards at work.

Killer Elite (2011)
entertaining action, but not fast paced enough for the kind of action flick that it "could" be. meanwhile, it's not nearly as engaging as it needs to be for a dramatic piece. the fact that it's "inspired by true events" is a kind of lame crutch/excuse. anyway, it's perfectly watchable, but not nearly as satisfying as it *could* be as either one of the aforementioned genres.

Not many new films, watching some old ones with my GF.

I have just finished Dues Ex: Human Revolution, and started playing Dead Island though

Dead Island is lots of fun, been playing Uncharted 3 myself, some good action set pieces, but it feels more like an interactive movie then a game, deffo prefer the first two.

Also been playing Zombie Apocalypse: Never die alone, it's a lot better then the first one (which was just arena based) but it's still a budget version of Dead Nation with some really annoying characters and acting, unlike Dead Nation which is pretty awesome

Also enjoying the series Terra Nova

Immortals 3D (2011)
don't bother. it's terrible. nice fight at the end, if you make it that far. also...dunno why there are no 2D screens. it's a post-process 3D conversion. :spank:
