Code 46 (2003)

Postby helenahandbasket on Sun Jul 25, 2004 10:17 pm

Saw this posted over at Ed2kit and thought I would bring it over here because I get the impression this movie isn't that well known and it would be easily missed. I've downloaded it, watched it, and I think it's a damn good little movie if you ask me. It's a sci-fi drama/love story blend.

Plot:
Code 46 is a love story set in an eerily possible near-future where cities are heavily controlled and only accessible through checkpoints. People cannot travel unless they have "papelles," a special travel insurance. Outside these cities, the desert has taken over and shanty towns are jammed with non-citizens - people without papelles whose lives are severely restricted. William is a family man who works as an insurance investigator. When his company sends him to another city to solve a case of fake papelles, he meets a woman named Maria. Although he knows she has been creating the forgeries, he cannot help but fall completely in love with her. He hides her crime and they have a wild, passionate affair that can only last as long as his papelles: 24 hours. Back home, William is obessed with the memory of Maria. He tries to see but is refused the necessary papers to travel. Desperate, he uses one of the fake papelles he kept from his investigation. He eventually tracks her down, only to discover she has been accused of a Code 46 violation.

Definately worth a look

"It's the age old story - droid meets droid, droid becomes chameleon, droid loses chameleon, chameleon turns into blob, droid gets blob back again. Blob meets blob, blob goes off with blob and droid loses blob, chameleon and droid. How many times have we seen that story?

It's from the Japanese movie Casshern.

I had a smaller version of it when I first got here but then mw2merc made this nice big one for me.

There.

I'm sorry though that you didn't like it. When I think chick flicks I think of more Maid in Manhattan or tripe like that.

I like love stories. Especially when one or both dies at the end. What I don't like is when they make it all feely, quasi-philosophical, yappy abd bitching like this was. The voice over was the worst I've ever heard!

What would you call West Side Story then? Sure it has a tragic ENDING, but the movie is basically a love story, based on Rome & Juliet (also known as The Greatest Love Story ever told).

I can also endure love stories which don't have a tragic ending, Blade Runner for example.

The important thing is that they don't make it look, sound and feel like a 'fairytale dream-love-story' written by a 12 year old girl, where everyone break into philosofical ponderings about the 'feelings' of inert objects.
