Fischer, an ex-cop, returns to his old beat somewhere in northern Europe after a thirteen-year hiatus in Cairo. His former mentor and role model, author of a treatise called "The Element of Crime", asks him to solve a series of murders involving lottery ticket sellers. Guided by the theories put forth in the book, Fischer retraces the steps of a suspect, Harry Grey, as recorded in a three-year-old police surveillance report. A dark film set in a post-apocalyptic Europe with unique visual atmosphere

Hey digitalgodd -

Thanks so much for all these releases! These are great and hard to find.

2 questions - I don't quite get the 1000futuristicfilms.net site - do you have access to all these films? If so I would like to request one off their site - starship invasions, (1977). I've never seen a full source for it anywhere.

The other question - I wonder if maybe you should slow down with the releases? I am trying to get 5 of your other releases but of course you are the only full source for any of these - so they are spreading really slowly. Maybe concentrate on getting a full source out there for some of the earlier releases? I'm trying to get quintet, recon2020, defcon4, noah and redline.

In any event, thanks very much, you're great.

hehe... since this is the question thread, i thought i'd ask one that's been confusing me.

How come your picking 800mb for your rips? Seems very odd, its too big to fit on a cdr and its too big to fit well on a DVDr? Any chance you could drop your filesizes to 744mb? (that way 6x 744mb fit perfectly onto a DVD+r)

I once years ago found 800 MB CDs in one store (I think they were TDK, meant for audio or something) and I burned them using a really expensive Plextor external CD-R drive and they still work but I think you can burn them with most DVD-RWs also :? I don't think 800 megs is a problem as most of other movie rips out there are still the old 700 megs (or suitable multiplication of it) so you mostly end-up with 200+ or so megs spare anyway ;)

that's faulty logic though, what if you download 6x of digital lords? They are very similar kind of movies so if you burn by themes, you know ;) you've now got more than 200+mb of wasted space . DVD-rw costs more than DVD-r, and the 800mb CDRs cost more than cdrs and they have a shorter life span and lower compatibabilty when data reaches the outer region of the cdr. And overburning with DVD-r is nearly always an unmittigated diaster, read: won't you take me down, to coaster town!

I use hdd for storage anyway so its not overly an issue for me, but i still think that 800mb will cause a big problem for people. I will probably hack and cut these rips at some point so they are correctly sized (when i get some complete anyway :) ), but that unfortunately means that i won't be able to reshare them after i've formatted them. :(

I'm just reluctant to leave them in "high quality" since traditionally, oversized rips have moved since its usually an indication of a one-click-rip operation, or some other problems.

IMO 744mb is the best size for the modern "1cd", since you can fit perfectly 6 movies onto DVD-r, and you can fit 4 movies on with a 1/3rd dvdr too :) AFR is the way forward :) 700mb retain compatability for cdr users mind, and 744mb can be burnt onto 90min cdrs, whilst not making them too big to burn onto DVD-r.

Anyway, my main reason of curiosity is why 800mb? They are mostly all that size, which is why i can't figure out why it was chosen over, say 1/6th DVDr, or 700mb. just seems quite an odd choice.

Yeah I agree with ya Spud and all rips I do are AFR except if someone asks (nicely ;)) for a 700 megs file like with some re-rips I did. Digitalgodd has asked before (in PA thread, I think) if someone could walk him through the autogknot procedures and I'd be glad to help it's only I don't have much spare time recently :( Besides, I don't use autogknot much, only full blown gknot for basic calculations and then I do all the steps manually w/ other tools. Dunno, might sound a bit strange but it kinda makes me feel better afterwards eventually finding proper gspot on my own

Yeah i use the 'grown up' gknot too, as far as autogknot goes:
http://www.doom9.org/autogk.htm

Gknot:
http://www.doom9.org/gknot-main4.htm

I've never used autogknot, but from the screens you need to check custom size and enter "744" in the box for a 1/6th DVDr (1cd equivalent) and "1490" for 1/3rd DVDr (~2cd equivalent). Don't go over 746mb, or 1493mb.

Then you can preview with an application called nandub to check its a good rip. I'd have a thumb through these threads:
viewtopic.php?t=47
There's info on things not to do, like not cropping (you shouldn't have black borders if autogknot has worked) and you shouldn't have interlacing.

I wrote this a year ago and this is very light (not a guide, there's plenty of guides):
http://forum.dead-donkey.com/viewtopic.php?t=7124

Second post there tells you one way of fixing undersizing as well as detecting IVTC.

I do in fact use a "one click" program for encoding dvd rips. I am trying to keep the resolution sharp while still keeping file size small. Once someone can get a file downloaded they can reformat if they want. I do not even use CD's anymore...Most of my downloads get put on DVD+R dual layer, that's 10 movies per disc.
Sorry if this is not what you want to hear, but I checked out a guide for GKnot and no thanks...I will stick to Dr. Divx

So stick to Dr. Divx if it suits you better. But couldn't you try to make your rips 700 or 744 MB? It would be very convenient for all of us. :)

A long time ago I was using Dr DivX for the same reason.. simple ass rips, but they were always faulty somehow & caused a lot of audio out of sync issues. There is a program to fix the out of sync & you should use it before releasing. Its called YAAI & can be found here... http://yaai.sourceforge.net/ Dr divX has the option to create a file of whatever size you want it to so not sure quite why youre making these rips 800mb?
AGK is so simple, its about 4 clicks & youre off & is far better rips than DrDivX.
GK is complicated & takes time to get used to so in the short term, whilst youre finding your feet I strongly recommend you try AGK...
Thanks for all the releases btw :beerchug:
